AMSTERDAM SAUER MUSEUM

APPROXIMATELY THREE THOUSAND ELEMENTS MAKE UP AN EXTENSIVE COLLECTION OF GEMS, PRODUCT OF JULES R. SAUER’S LIFE PASSION.

Aquamarines, tourmalines, imperial topazes, diamonds and many other gem species presented on their natural rough state and as faceted gemstones make up an impressive collection marked by rarity and beauty.

EXPERIENCE AND RELEVANCE

The Amsterdam Sauer Museum is a watershed in the foundation of Brazil’s gemological memory. Founded in 1989, it has approximately three thousand specimens on its collection.

Jules Sauer played a large part in the formation of this collection. Over the course of his lifetime passion for the gemstones, he held onto the most rare and fascinating specimen, which are now displayed for the public. It is a collection that has been enriched by the second generation of the family reflecting the essence of the brand.

Among other valuable pieces, the museum possesses the only replica of the imperial crown of Pedro II of Brazil, the most important jewel in Brazil’s history.

Some of the pieces appear in The Guinness Book of Records, due to their gigantic size and rarity. For example, visitors can admire a 150-pound transparent topaz - one of the largest in the world; an agglomerate of transparent quartz crystals weighing 142 pounds; and rough rubellites from the largest discovery in the world - the Jonas mine, in the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais.

Realistic replicas of the mines transport the visitor to the environment where the gems were formed, millions of years ago, and show the extraction process, making the experience even more fascinating.

"THE MUSEUM’S PURPOSE IS TO MAP BRAZIL’S GEOLOGICAL RICHNESS. VISITORS FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD ARE IMPRESSED WITH THE VARIETY OF GEMSTONES THAT WE HAVE.".

Daniel Sauer, son of Amsterdam Sauer’s founder, Jules Sauer.
